The large-scale military operation that the IDF began this morning in Ramallah continues this afternoon. The operation is designed to apprehend Hamas terrorists, members of four cells who are responsible for no fewer than 68 terrorist murders since the beginning of the Oslo War three years ago. The army notified the PA in advance of the operation, giving assurances that it would not enter the Mukata where Arafat has been holed up for close to two years.
Among the terrorists being sought by the Israeli forces are those who killed three patrolling soldiers in Ein Yabrud, across from Ofrah, six weeks ago.
Three or four terrorists have been killed in the battle so far, including at least two who were wearing explosives vests. Dozens of terrorist suspects have been arrested, and the Israelis also found and blew up a five-story building housing an explosives lab and great quantities of explosive materials. No soldiers have been hurt in the operation.
Elsewhere in Israel's anti-terrorism war: A soldier was lightly wounded early this afternoon by Arab gunfire in the south. The incident occurred near Ganei Tal in Gush Katif... Palestinian terrorists fired at Israeli cars in the Shomron in two incidents; the cars were damaged, but no one was hurt... IDF forces destroyed this morning the home of senior Hamas terrorist Ahmed Shafik Bader, who was responsible for the murderous attacks in Adura, Karmei Tzur, Kiryat Arba, French Hill, and many more...
In Gush Katif, on Israel's southern Mediterranean coast, there has been a 40% increase in terrorist attacks and shellings over the past ten days. Arutz-7's Kobi Finkler reports that security sources feel that the "Palestinians read the diplomatic map very well, and are responding in character to all the recent talk of the possible uprooting of Israeli settlements." Among the some 15 shells fired at Gush Katif communities in the past few days, one landed just outside a house in N'vei Dekalim, causing major damage and lightly injuring the four family members who were inside at the time.
