This morning a group of 'Youth for Jonathan Pollard' activists held and animated protest outside Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s office. The protest vigil was directed toward the cabinet minister taking part in the cabinet meeting.

“Today (Sunday) marks 19 years since Jonathan Pollard’s incarceration,” said Sara Stark, an ardent activist on Pollard’s behalf, “it is intolerable that the government ministers of the State of Israel conduct their business as usual, discussing the release of Palestinian terrorists while Pollard languishes in an American prison.”

The activists wore gas masks bearing the words: 'Pollard rescued Israel from the threat of Biological/Chemical attacks, when will we rescue him?'

The group, part of the 'Freedom for Jonathan Pollard' movement, say today’s vigil was but the first of many actions planned to mark 19 years since Pollard's imprisonment.

“Pollard saved Israel from chemical gas attack,” explained Stark, “It is because of him that Israel knows about the chemical and biological threats from Iran and Iraq. Jonathan Pollard, the son of holocaust survivors, discovered US intelligence information about chemical gas being produced in order to attack Israel with. He refused to allow any more Jews to be gassed and so he did what was right and passed on the information to Israel. Every citizen of Israel now owns a gas mask because of Jonathan Pollard – its time for us to say thank-you.”

The activists originally planned to block cabinet members’ cars, but the ministers were advised to use a different exit.

They protesters, directing their words toward Pollard, said they wanted him to know: “We won’t stop until you are free. We are prepared to do whatever it takes to gain your freedom.”
