Mubarak appointed Suleimon as his deputy earlier this week - the position from which both Mubarak and his predecessor, Anwar Sadat, jumped to the presidency.



Some still feel, however, that Mubarak has his eye on his son Jamal for the high post. Mubarak the father is not in the best of health, and even stopped in the middle of a speech to his Parliament last week because of weakness.



Omar Suleiman has been a mediator between Israel and the PA in cease-fire matters, as well as between Arafat and other PA figures. He is known to avoid interviews with the press.
