In the shadow of increasing talk of actually uprooting an Israeli community and expelling its residents - specifically, Netzarim, just north of Gush Katif - Knesset Speaker Ruby Rivlin is paying a visit to the area today.
Rivlin received a letter this week from Netzarim resident Yitzchak Vazana, in which was written as follows:
"First and foremost, it must be understood that the very mention of such ideas [as the uprooting of Jewish communities in our land] directly encourages terrorism. In the past few weeks, we have seen here a terror barrage of proportions unknown even by Gaza standards - mortar shells, Kassam rockets, explosives on roads, attempted infiltrations, shootings on vehicles, and innumerable intelligence warnings. Only thanks to G-d and the abilities of our loyal IDF fighters have these attacks without casualties... We protest the very idea of bringing destruction and expulsion to any Jewish town in the Land of Israel. Nothing is more ethical and moral than to live a Jewish life of productive toil and creativity in the Land of Israel - and nothing is less ethical and moral than to punish he who is attacked and cave in to a merciless and cruel enemy."
Just last night, a two-man armed terrorist cell attempting to infiltrate Gush Katif via the Kisufim Crossing was identified, pursued, and liquidated. The only access road to Gush Katif was closed down during the operation. In Netzarim, Palestinian terrorists attempted to murder the passengers of a civilian convoy that had just entered the town, only shortly after shots were fired at an IDF force nearby. No one was hurt.
