Sobahi Tufeili, the former head of the Hezbollah terrorist organization, who was deposed as the group’s leader over a decade ago, had harsh words for current leader, Hassan Nasralla, in a recent interview.

“Hezbollah was founded to serve the underprivileged, but has been turned into a proxy for the Syrian government,” Tufeili told the Saudi television station Al-Arabiya. According to Tufeili, Syria has complete control of Hezbollah and uses the group to further the dictatorship’s goals. “The Syrians refuse to permit the Lebanese army enter Israel,” he said, “They should have ordered Israel to withdraw to the border [sic] and evacuate the region.”

Tufeili accused Nasralla of being captive to Syria’s fear of Israeli retaliation and blamed that position for the fact that “The struggle has turned from a struggle into a border patrol.” He accused his former organization of being hired mercenaries: “The only difference between today’s Hezbollah and Lachad’s men (Antoine Lachad, former Southern Lebanese Army commander – allied with Israel) is that Lachad’s funding came from Israel and today’s organization receives their funding from Muslim sources,” he said.

Tufeili ‘blamed’ Nasralla for the relative quiet along the border during a time where, in his opinion, many terrorist operations should be carried out. “Anyone who wishes to prove himself should take a weapon and carry out an attack against the Zionist enemy. Many have chosen that path and are currently sitting in prison.”

Sobhi Tufeili was deposed as head of Hezbollah 15 years ago. In 1997 there was an attempted coup in the terror organization, called the “Revolution of the Hungry.”
