“A nuclear Iran is the greatest threat to Israel - ever,” said Meir Dagan, head of the Mossad, Monday. Dagan told the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee that Iran is coming close to the “point of no return” in its quest for nuclear weapons development and that once it reached such a capability it would pose the most serious threat to Israel in its history.

A report by the International Atomic Energy Agency claims that Iran has covered up its steady development of the components necessary to manufacture nuclear weapons, such as enriched uranium and the steady production of small amounts of processed plutonium.

“Despite Iran’s recent promises to cooperate with the IAEA, the Mossad believes that Iran intends to produce nuclear weapons, following North Korea’s lead and boosting its status in the International community,” Dagan told the Knesset Committee.

He also highlighted Iran’s continued support for terrorist organizations such as Hamas, Islamic Jihad and Hezballa – whom they have supplied with missiles, which have been deployed in Southern Lebanon.

Dagan said that 1.25 millions residents of Northern Israel are within range of the Iranian missiles.
