Roman Serov, who represented Russia until 2001 in international skating competitions, this month brought home a bronze medal for Israel. He came in third at the 36th Golden Spin of Zagreb (Croatia) International Figure Ice Skating Competition, in the Men’s Division. His overall rating was 4.0, with a 3 in a Free Style skate and a 2 for his Short Program. (The gold medal went to Xiaodong Ma of China with a 1.5 rating.)

Serov has been winning gold medals in Israel for several years in the Skate Israel competition. The Jerusalem Post reported that Serov was suffering still from a skate slash earlier this year, which required more than 35 stitches. The newspaper further explained that Serov will not be representing Israel in championship skating competitions until 2005, due to citizenship status issues.
