MK Nissan Slomiansky (National Religious Party) said, "The High Court of Justice has proven once again that it is detached from the people. The High Court prefers a cheap imitation of Western values, ignoring the fact that we are a Jewish democratic state at war."
One of those who joined the suit against the screening of the movie is Dr. David Sangen, an IDF doctor who fought in Jenin during the battles in question. He told Arutz-7 today how saddened he was by the Supreme Court's decision:
"It's a movie of lies and incitement. The Supreme Court's message today is that it is permitted to screen blood-libels in Israel, in the guise of freedom of speech. A Goebbels movie would be permitted, according to today's ruling... I told the Court that there were always, throughout history, blood libels against Jews, and they were stamps of approval to murder Jews. I told the Court that if it permits this movie to be shown, the results would be the same. It is very very troubling to me that the Court preferred the interests of someone who grew up in the nests from where these murderers came, over those of the soldiers who fought so ethically and so heroically to protect our people - as I myself saw... It's hard to understand how these judges, who live here amongst us and know what's going on, don't understand that a movie like this is direct encouragement for someone to put on an explosives vest and commit a suicide attack..."
Dr. Sangen also said that the film is "full of objective lies. It claims that the IDF destroyed the hospital in Jenin - even though everyone [in the city] could see that the hospital was still standing and was not hit with even one bullet. The movie states that soldiers shot children in the head, or ran over people - all of this is pure lies... Bakri took a picture of a moving armored vehicle, and then took pictures of people in the street, and made it seem as if they were being run over." Asked about the fact that the Court feels that even the right to "lie" is part of freedom of speech, Sangen said,
"The Court cannot grant people the right to lie when this right harms other people. Freedom of speech, as with any other freedom, ends where it harms others. Bakri himself said last night that he does not agree with his cousins [who were convicted of helping in the murder of Jews], but that he understands them, 'because they saw what happened in Jenin.' This shows how dangerous the movie is - because they did *not* see what happened in Jenin - all they saw was this movie! These lies incite people to murder Jews!"
MK Gila Finkelstein (NRP) called on Israeli television stations to boycott the "anti-Zionist movie, which is filled with bald-faced lies and does a great injustice to IDF soldiers who risked their lives in acting with care, even in the vipers' nest of Jenin."
MK Aryeh Eldad (National Union) said that the High Court has become an active participant in the blood libel being spread by Mohammad Bakri against Israel and the IDF: "The Justices are providing a wonderful service to the enemy, under the cover of the foolish argument of freedom of speech.
