Netzarim is a growing Jewish community in central Gaza, surrounded on all sides by Arab areas but serving as an important strategic presence. Shinui leader Justice Minister Yosef Lapid recently drew up a plan for the dismantling of the 65-family town, but not all of the 15 Shinui MKs agree. Of today's visitors to Netzarim, Chemi Doron opposes the evacuation, while Ilan Leibovitch is in favor. Doron said afterwards that he is against giving "prizes to terrorism," and that today's visit strengthened his opinion.

A Shinui party minister, Modi Zandberg, told Arutz-7 today that the only way he would consent to the uprooting of a Jewish town is if a new map is drawn up that would involve the dismantling of Arab towns as well: "There is no reason why we should be the only ones to pay the price of peace," he said.

On Oct 24, Palestinian terrorists gunned down three soldiers - two of them while they were sleeping - in Netzarim. The terrorists spied out the area for a long while before the attack, and two days afterwards, the army blew up three unoccupied 13-story buildings that were used solely for spying on Netzarim.
