The official state memorial ceremony marking the assassination of Prime Minister Yitzchak Rabin took place this afternoon 15:00 in the Mount Herzl Military Cemetery in Jerusalem. A service was held this morning in the President's Residence in Jerusalem as well.
Palmach Ze'evi, son of the slain Tourism Minister Rehavam (Gandhi) Ze'evi, has asked Dalia Rabin, daughter of the slain Prime Minister Rabin, to apologize. Rabin, appearing last night on television, bemoaned the fact that she has to "fight with the Education Ministry, which wants to combine the [two murders] in one [course]." Ze'evi wrote in response, "Rabin and Gandhi both wore 'robes of royalty' when they were murdered. Rabin was everyone's Prime Minister, and Gandhi was everyone's Tourism Minister. Both of our fathers were murdered because of their path - paths that were totally love and infinite giving on behalf of the homeland, from [their days in] the Palmach up to their public service. It is inconceivable to distinguish between the loss of one and the loss of the other."
