A Kassam rocket landed this morning in northern Sderot, in the western Negev. Just over the nearby Gaza fence, Palestinian terrorists opened fire on a convoy traveling between Karni and Netzarim. No one was hurt and no damage was caused in either incident.
Israel has started to work with its third PA "government," though all three of them have been run, behind the scenes, by the same man: Yasser Arafat. The Prime Minister's Office has begun contacts with the PA for the scheduling of a meeting between Ariel Sharon and Ahmed Qurei (Abu Ala). The latter's term of office as temporary prime minister expires nine days from now, and he will meet with Sharon only if he remains in office after that date. Amos Gilad, head of the Diplomatic-Security Wing in the Defense Ministry, has been conducting meetings throughout the recent period with PA figures.
Defense Minister Sha'ul Mofaz intends to meet this week with a leading PA figure, probably Jibril Rajoub or Nasser Yusuf. Arab sources have reported that Mofaz recently met with Abu Ala; Defense Ministry sources deny this, but refuse to comment on future prospects for such meetings.
