The Palestinian attacks on Israel did not cease before, during, or after the meeting. A pipebomb composed of a mine and a cellular phone exploded in a downtown trash can in Hadera this morning. No one was injured in the blast, but central Hadera was closed for a number of hours while police combed the area. In addition, there was shooting this morning near Chomesh - at an Israeli car carrying an Israeli-Arab - and near the Jerusalem-area village of Azariya. Two more grenades were hurled, and shots were fired, at an army contingent in southern Gaza this afternoon; no one was hurt, and IDF soldiers returned fire. Fatah published an announcement today addressed to soldiers and settlers, telling them, \"Don\'t dream of expecting security. We will continue our attacks.\"
Despite this, Arutz-7\'s Haggai Huberman said that there actually is an attempt by Arafat to reduce the violence within Area A (under total Palestinian control). \"Unfortunately, Israel is playing into Arafat\'s hands by not enforcing security itself in the other areas that it controls,\" Huberman said. \"The army should not hesitate to go into these areas. Otherwise, Arafat is justified in saying that violence cannot be controlled there unless he receives full control over them.\"
MK Zevulun Orlev of the National Religious Party suggested today that an all-out ban on private Arab vehicles on Yesha roads be instituted, until there are clear official PA announcements demanding an end to this terrorism.
Arabs also fired at IDF forces near Sa-Nur in the Shomron. In Gaza, it was a relatively quiet night, with only three attacks: grenades at an IDF outpost near Rafiach, anti-tank grenades near Gadid, and shots near N\'vei Dekalim. Rabbi Yaakov Ariel, Chief Rabbi of Ramat Gan, was attacked by terrorists last night, but was unhurt. He was on his way home in the bulletproof security vehicle belonging to the town of N\'vei Tzuf, where he had come to give a \"lecture/talk of encouragement,\" when shots rang out. Rabbi Ariel\'s bodyguard got out of the car and fired back at the terrorists.
Rabbi Ariel told Arutz-7 today, \"I have grandchildren in Ateret who travel on this route all the time, as well as my daughter-in-law and my son. For the first time, I felt on my own flesh what could have happened. Later I saw dozens of people waiting [at the checkpoint] to be able to come in safely, women and children in un-bulletproofed cars... It was hard for me to believe how this situation can continue, how no one is taking responsibility for this terrible thing... Someone may have to pay a high price for a terrible tragedy that could happen here... We must not allow the Yesha settlers to be sitting ducks. They must be helped in every way. Just yesterday, we talked about starting a campaign in the big cities to raise money for bulletproof vehicles...\" Information on an existing campaign of this nature can be seen at.
Prime Minister Sharon said last night, \"Our War of Independence has not yet ended.\" Speaking at a memorial ceremony for soldiers of the Alexandroni Brigade who fought in the Latrun battle during the 1948 war, Sharon said, \"The past months prove to us that our struggle for our right to live on our land continues even today. Who would have believed, when we fought that terrible battle in Latrun to break the siege on Jerusalem, that now, 53 years later, we would still be fighting for Jerusalem, the capital of the Jewish Nation and of the State of Israel.\" Sharon himself fought in that battle, as did refugees from Europe who had just arrived in Israel days before.
