While the tourism industry has been hit hard during the last three years, and despite more gloomy predictions, Israeli hotels were filled over the Sukkot holiday period. Occupancy rates this season were reported as being higher than last year.

Globes financial newspaper reported that the major hotel chains in the country saw occupancy rates of between 80-100% in most of their hotels, from Eilat to the Dead Sea, from Jerusalem to Tiberias. The highest occupancy rates were reported at the Dead Sea, Eilat and Jerusalem.

Hotels and bungalows in the north of the country reported 70-75% occupancy over Sukkot, according to Globes. This rate was higher than expected, in view of tensions along the northern border. But attendance at tourist sites was high, the newspaper said, quoting tourist sources, noting that many people made their visits into day trips, rather than staying over in hotels, mostly out of economic considerations.
