The Defense Ministry is inviting the public to visit its museums across the country during the Sukkot holiday. The museums depict the modern history of the State of Israel, from the beginnings of modern Zionism, through the establishment of the Israel Defense Forces, up until today. Stories of heroism, sacrifice, and pioneering dedication can be found in each of the museums.
A full list of the Defense Ministry museums, including addresses, admission fees, and times of entry, can be found at "http://station14.mod.gov.il/pages/heritage/welcome.asp". The museums are:
* HaShomer Museum, in Kibbutz Kfar Giladi - about the early watch groups protecting the Jewish population;
* The Eliyahu Golomb Haganah Museum, in Tel Aviv - depicting the rise of the Jewish defense organizations in the Land of Israel up until the establishment of the Israel Defense Forces;
* HaGedudim HaIvri'im Museum, in Avichayil (near Netanya) - the Jewish brigades during World War I;
* The Underground Prisoners in Acre Fortress - where Jewish prisoners were held by the British; some escaped, and others were hanged here.
* The Underground Prisoners in the Russian Compound in Jerusalem - depicting the period between 1917 and 1948.
* The Israel Navy and Blockade-Running Museum, in Haifa - depicting the struggle for Jewish immigration to the Land of Israel between 1934 and 1948;
* The Etzel (Irgun) Museum, in Tel Aviv - dealing with the activities of the Irgun against Arab terrorism and the British Mandate;
* The 1948 Etzel (Irgun) Museum - showing the activities and cooperation of the Irgun in the War of Independence; at the Charles Clore Gardens at the entrance to Jaffa.
* Batei HaOsef - depicting the history of the IDF; at the old Jaffa railway station.
* The Lechi Museum - in memory of Lechi founder Yair Stern; in Tel Aviv
* The Palmach Museum, in Tel Aviv - depicting the forerunner of the IDF, from its founding in 1941 until 1948.
