Most of the large IDF force that entered PA-controlled Rafiach on the Israeli-Egyptian border early Friday morning pulled out last night. Israeli officers reported that they were surprised by the significant resistance they encountered on the Arab side, including automatic weapons, grenades, anti-tank rockets, and bombs. One or two soldiers sustained light injuries, while eight PA residents were killed.
During the abbreviated offensive, the Israeli forces uncovered and destroyed three weapons-smuggling tunnels from Egypt, arrested terrorist suspects, and destroyed six buildings. Some ten arms tunnels, 12-14 meters deep, are still estimated to be in active operation. Arutz-7s Haggai Huberman reports that the tunnels are funded by the Iranians. A small IDF force remains in Rafiach to continue efforts to locate tunnels, and the operation is expected to resume in full force in the near future.
