Soldiers of the Netzach Yehuda brigade - otherwise known as Nachal Hareidi, the military brigade established for hareidi youth - made use of a break in their ongoing security operations in the Jordan Valley this week for packing and distributing food packages to needy families for the upcoming Sukkot holiday. The packages went to hundreds of families throughout the country, through the Orot Chesed charitable organization.

Orot Chesed distributes food packages before every holiday and Sabbath to needy families. Package preparation and distribution is generally carried out by volunteers from yeshivas, ulpanot (girls' religious high schools), and national youth groups.

In another similarly commendable effort in honor of Sukkot, volunteers from the Bnei Akiva and Ariel youth groups, along with volunteers from the Yad Sarah aid organization, helped people throughout the country build their sukkot. Yad Sarah spokesman David Rotner told Arutz-7 this week that the initiative is designed for those for whom putting together the sukkah has become too difficult, yet still want to observe the relevant Biblical commandments and fully enjoy the holiday. The main thing, Rotner said, is "to give those people the feeling that they can sit in their own sukkah, next to their house, as they most likely were used to doing for dozens of years before."
