Soldiers of the Netzach Yehuda brigade - also called the Nachal Haredi, the military brigade established for Hareidi youth - made use of a break in their ongoing security operations in the Jordan Valley for packing and distributing food packages to needy families ahead of the upcoming Sukkot holiday (beginning Friday night). The packages went to hundreds of families throughout the country, through the Orot Chesed charitable organization.

Orot Chesed distributes food packages ahead of every holiday and Sabbath to families unable to provide their own needs. Package preparation and distribution is generally carried out by volunteers from yeshivas, ulpanot, and national youth groups.

In another commendable effort ahead of the Sukkot holiday, volunteers from the Bnei Akiva and Ariel youth groups, along with volunteers from the Yad Sarah aid organization are helping people throughout the country to build their sukkot.

Interviewed on October 8 on Arutz-7 Radio, Yad Sarah spokesman David Rotner explained that the initiative is aimed at those for whom putting together the sukkah has become too physically difficult, but they still want to observe the mitzvah and fully enjoy the holiday. The volunteers construct the sukkah and decorate it, but the main thing, says Rotner, is “to give those people the feeling that they can sit in their own sukkah, next to their house, as they most likely were used to doing for dozens of years before.”

The mission of Yad Sarah, especially during the holidays, Rotner explained, is to extend whatever physical help is needed to allow people to live comfortably at home. On Sukkot, this means being able to sit in one’s own sukkah.

Although the organization’s efforts are aimed at those who already have a sukkah, but cannot put it up themselves, when asked if the volunteers would also bring a sukkah to someone who asked, Rotner responded, “Just as we make every effort year-round, we will make every effort now, as well.”
