Throughout the week of the Sukkot holiday, which lasts from Oct. 11-18, the Tourism Ministry will set up an Information Sukkah (temporary structure) for tourists at the Davidson Center in Jerusalem, near the Western Wall. Tourists who visit the Sukkah will be able to obtain up-to-the-minute information on tourism sites throughout the country. Manned by Tourism Ministry employees from 10 AM through 5 PM, the Information Sukkah will include a computer and internet station, general advertising material and material on Israeli tourism, certificates of appreciation signed by Tourism Minister Benny Elon, and feedback postcards. Rabbi Elon will visit the Sukkah and meet with tourists.
The computerized system will not be only one-way; tourists will be able to supply information so that Israel's Tourism Ministry can maintain contact with them after they return home. Rafi Ben-Hur, senior director of the Ministry, says that the Information Sukkah is aimed both at helping tourists in Israel and recruiting tourist volunteers to encourage tourism to Israel from their home communities.
