The rainy season may have begun. Heavy rains fell in northern Israel last night, and as much as 71 mm (2.8 inches) were measured in Kibbutz Dan, including 40 mm in only 20 minutes. As a result of the torrent, a very strong current began in the Si'on Brook, reminiscent of springtime. More rain is expected in the north today, but by Yom Kippur - Monday - the weather will be hotter and drier.
The Kinneret Sea (Sea of Galilee), Israel's largest reservoir, now stands at 210.71 meters below sea level, 1.8 meters below the optimum level, but 3.5 meters higher than last year at this time. This past summer saw the Kinneret drop one meter, compared to 1.26 and 1.83 meters in the two preceding years.
