MK Uri Ariel of the National Union is categorically against the fence. "The Cabinet decision was sad, wasteful, irresponsible and regretful" he told Arutz-7 today, "and as Defense Minister Sha'ul Mofaz said, it would have been better to spend the money on other security measures that would have provided better security. True, the route that was decided upon could have been worse, but this seems to be a 'fool's consolation,' because it always could have been worse - but as a believing and optimistic Jew, I always think that it could have been better..."

"I don't say that the fence should not be built anywhere," MK Ariel said, "but to build it in a contiguous manner [means that] it is not a matter of security. It is also very wasteful, costing 15 million shekels a kilometer, at a time when we can't find 5 million shekels for the handicapped. Yes, it is supposed to save lives, but the fact is that this fence is a Golden Calf to which everyone is bowing down and throwing their money and gold and hoping it will save them..."

Ariel said that as Chairman of the Defense Spending Subcommittee, he will demand to know where the money is supposed to come from "during these times of across-the-board budget cuts."
