Noam Federman's sudden placement into three months of administrative detention this week was the subject of a court hearing in Jerusalem this afternoon. Federman, who lives in Hevron, is appealing the decision by Defense Minister Sha'ul Mofaz to incarcerate him without explanation.

At today's hearing, the Shabak (General Security Service) presented what it said was secret material against Federman - and Federman then said he has secret material to present against the Shabak. The judge ordered the police and Shabak representatives, and even the court reporter, out of the courtroom, in order to hear the evidence - and later issued an order barring publication of Federman's evidence. A decision has not yet been handed down.

Federman had completed a year of house arrest and was in the midst of appealing *that* sentence in the Supreme Court when he was handed the orders to go to jail. He maintains that the authorities are "hounding" him because they have not been able to incriminate him on criminal charges.
