Soldier And Two Terrorists Killed

In an early-morning battle with two barricaded senor Islamic Jihad terrorists in Gaza, IDF forces killed the two, and one soldier was killed as well. The forces encircled the residential building in which the terrorists were barricaded, and the latter opened fire, killing Sgt. Avihu Keinan, 22, of Shilo. Six soldiers were wounded, including one in serious condition and two in "moderate" condition. The terrorists were then killed in the ensuing exchange of gunfire, as was an Arab baby caught in the crossfire. The wounded fighters were taken south to Soroka Hospital in Be'er Sheva.

The funeral of Sgt. Keinan was held in Shiloh this afternoon. Survived by his parents and four siblings, he had just completed training the guard unit in his hometown in northern Binyamin. "He exuded happiness and laughter wherever he went, and shared this with his friends," Shilo's Rabbi Elchanan Bin-Nun said today.

A high-ranking Border Guard police officer was seriously wounded in a rock-throwing attack this morning, south of Jerusalem. He was transported to the trauma unit of Jerusalem's Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital, and is listed in light-to-moderate condition. The officer was seriously wounded in the Worshipers' Path battle of last November in which 12 Israelis were killed, and even received a citation for his valiant performance in the battle. He was on his way this morning to a ceremony held in his honor by the Jewish Community of Hevron when he was attacked.

An imprisoned Hamas terrorist was caught this morning in the midst of preparing to escape. Guards in a Be'er Sheva prison noticed something suspicious in one of the cells, and when they checked, they found that one of the prisoners had three plastic handcuff keys on his person. He was apparently planning to break loose while receiving medical treatment outside the prison. In another incident in Be'er Sheva today, a routine search of a security prisoner's cell resulted in the discovery of a cellular telephone hidden on his person. The prisoner is a Fatah member from eastern Jerusalem.

IDF forces razed the home last night of a terrorist who attempted to carry out a mass attack in Israel a month ago. The security forces arrested him just before he was to perpetrate the attack... Several hours earlier, the home of the suicide terrorist who murdered seven Jews in Cafe Hillel in Jerusalem two weeks ago was destroyed... IDF construction workers near the Kisufim Crossing into Gush Katif were fired upon this afternoon; no one was hurt.
