The case of Chaim Didovsky vs. Beeper reached the Knesset Finance Committee today, at the initiative of MK Zevulun Orlev (NRP) - who says it\'s a flat-out case of discrimination. Didovsky, whose wife Rina was murdered by Palestinian terrorists ten weeks ago, is the founder of the news agency that now bears the name Kol Rina, in her memory. The agency’s news items - usually, scoops of events occurring in Yesha - are distributed to subscribers via Beeper Communications Company, but Didovsky recently sued Beeper for \"violating its contract\" with him and for \"providing [Didovsky] with service inferior to that it provides other customers.\" \"When I call and send a message from Kol Rina,\" he told Arutz-7\'s Haggai Seri today, \"the operator says she\'s sorry, she can only send it to one subscriber, and if I want I can call back to send it to another. But when I call in a message that is not in Kol Rina\'s name, they allow me to do that which they allow everyone else - two messages every two hours to ten subscribers each.\"
The suit also claims that the situation has deteriorated to one of “personal oppression” against Didovsky on the part of Beeper representatives. Beeper claims that he should be paying more for the amount of messages that he sends - but Didovsky\'s lawyer says that Beeper is interested in Didovsky\'s high-volume business; for if not, Beeper would cancel the contract entirely. MK Tzvi Hendel advised Beeper to treat Didovsky more humanely and both sides would gain, while other MKs said that the problem stems from the fact that Beeper holds a monopoly in Israel. Committee Chairman Avraham Poraz asked Beeper to allow Didovsky to send messages just like everyone else at least until next week, when the Finance Committee will propose a compromise solution.
