IDF forces surrounded a Hevron building in which a terrorist was hiding, called for him to come out, ducked the bullets he fired at them - and then killed him by destroying the building. The terrorist thus eliminated was Basel Kawasme, of the well-known, and terrorist-supporting, Kawasme clan of Hevron. Basel was a senior Hamas operative involved in many terrorist atrocities, including the murder of Nati Ozeri, the bombing of Jerusalem's bus no. 2, a bombing attack in Haifa, and more.
The incident began at 2 AM when the military forces arrived at the building. The residents were called upon to leave, which most of them did - but the wanted terrorist himself remained inside, and shot at the soldiers. The Arab family in the home where Kawasme had taken refuge informed IDF soldiers that a masked man had forced his way in and threatened them. Soldiers returned fire and continued to call out for Kawasme to give himself up, but finally brought in a giant D-9 bulldozer that began to overturn the building. The shooting stopped, and a short time later the terrorist's body was found - with a submachine gun alongside him.
More than 40 warnings of planned terrorist attacks were received by security forces today. Jenin was thus placed once again under curfew last night, as the IDF continues its counter-terrorist operations in Judea, Samaria and Gaza. Army forces arrested two Hamas terrorists last night in Rantis, north of Ramallah. This was the same village that produced the two suicide terrorists who murdered 15 people in Tzrifin and Cafe Hillel two weeks ago... For the first time in a long while, terrorists opened fire at the Jewish town of Psagot, which lies adjacent to the eastern edge of Ramallah. No one was hurt.
