A team of doctors from Israel and abroad performed an angioplasty operation on Rabbi Yosef Sholom (ben Chaya Musha) Elyashiv last night in Hadassah Ein Karem Hospital in Jerusalem. The operation was reported to be successful, and the rabbi's condition has improved. Rabbi Elyashiv, 92, is widely considered the leading Torah authority in the world today - "though he stays out of the limelight and does not travel around... his 'light of Torah' shines forth to the world from his little apartment in Jerusalem in which he has lived for several decades," said Rabbi Yossi Sarid of Mevaseret Zion today.
