\"There is no other explanation, except that it is a miracle.\" So says the sister-in-law of Roni Diament of Efrat, who was shot 14 times in the stomach and chest by Palestinian terrorists last night - but who underwent an operation this afternoon and is no longer in life-threatening danger. His condition had deteriorated over the night, and he was listed this morning as seriously wounded, but he is now listed in moderate condition.
Roni Diament - Aharon David ben Rachel - was shot by Palestinian terrorists not far from Tzurif, an Arab village just west of Gush Etzion from where many terrorists have originated since before the establishment of the State of Israel. He was traveling home to Gush Etzion along the road that many residents had been using in order to avoid the terrorist dangers of the Tunnels Highway. Some 19 bullets hit the car, and two of them grazed his temple. The Jewish Community of Hevron issued a statement sharply criticizing the army for not providing sufficient protection on the \"one remaining road safely remaining for those who live between Jerusalem and Hevron.\"
Roni\'s brother-in-law Tzvi Rabi spoke to him by cell phone almost immediately after the attack, and alerted army and rescue forces. Rabi told Arutz-7 today, \"Usually there is a jeep standing at that spot, which is known to be dangerous - but last night, possibly because of the bad weather, the army felt that nothing would happen, and the jeep wasn\'t there. But the terrorists thought one step ahead. With no army forces around, they were able to take their time, shooting individual shots (not machine-gun fire)...\"
In other war-related news, Palestinians continued to shoot last night at the homes of Psagot, as well as IDF outposts near Gadid in Gush Katif and near Netzarim. No one was hurt. IDF soldiers shot last night at a house in Beit Jala from where heavy firing against Gilo had been identified. The firing lasted a few minutes, and involved light-weapons, machine guns, and even tank shells.
A group of women from the Talmon communities - Neriah, Talmon, and Dolev - protested at the Dolev-Talmon junction this afternoon. This was their second such demonstration, and they demand that the army reopen the road from the intersection to Beit El and Jerusalem. The group\'s spokesperson, Tzippy Shlissel, says, \"Last night\'s attack at Tzurif proves that the closing of roads does not prevent attacks, but merely provokes them.\" The Beit El-Dolev road has been closed for nearly five months.
