Ze’ev Glickman, who was injured in 1979 while on active military duty, has taken first place in the Hungarian Open in table tennis for the disabled. He defeated the French player Helen Pichon, rated first in the world, 3:1. The finals in the Hungarian Open was held in Budapest over this past weekend (September 9-10). 160 table tennis players from 22 countries took part in the competition.
Glickman’s success earned Israel the right to participate in the table tennis event in the Athens Paralympics next year. At the Paralympics of 1996 and 2000, Glickman took home the silver medal.
