The United States General Accounting Office - the equivalent of Israel’s Office of the State Comptroller - has launched an investigation into Israel’s alleged violation of agreements pertaining to fighter planes supplied to Israel by the United States. The initiator of the investigation is Congressman John Conyers Jr. (D - Michigan), who charges that US manufactured F-16s were used by Israel against the PA. Conyers maintains that such usage is in violation of the agreement between the US and Israel, a deal that permits the planes to be used only for “legitimate defense”. Since the May 18 employment of the F-16s on PLO targets in Ramallah, Israel has not used the planes.
