Palestinian terrorism continued today as well, leaving two more Israelis in serious condition. A truck driver from the Negev city of Ofakim was shot this morning outside the greenhouses of Rafiach Yam in Gush Katif, on Israel's southern Mediterranean coast. He underwent emergency surgery in Soroka Hospital in Be'er Sheva this morning, and is listed in serious but stable condition. A Gaza Coast Regional Council team evacuated him to Be'er Sheva under fire. Soldiers who arrived on the scene returned fire, and later attempted to find the attackers.
Hamas took credit for the shooting, claiming it was in retaliation for the recent targeted killings. Gush Katif residents, however, have been complaining of such shooting from Rafiach for the past two years - and say that the army rarely took action against it.
Early this evening, a worker reported to be either a foreign laborer or an Israeli-Arab, was shot by terrorists as he was working on the partition fence south of Kalkilye. He is listed in "moderate" condition.
In other attacks this morning, a mortar shell was fired at a Gush Katif town, and Arabs opened fire at an IDF position near Netzarim in north-central Gaza. IDF soldiers returned fire, and no one was hurt.
On Friday night, three mortar shells were fired into Netzer Hazani, in Gush Katif, precisely as residents were leaving the synagogue following Sabbath prayers. One of the shells exploded in close proximity to the building, causing significant damage to the Bnei Akiva youth clubhouse.
