Recent media reports have given the impression that most hareidi religious authorities, as well as the Chief Rabbinate, are against Jewish visitors to the Temple Mount. The major reasons are the uncertainties involved in determining which areas are permitted and which are not; the fear that many Jews will not take the required precautions; and the concern that such visits might "provoke" our enemies.
Arutz-7's Yosef Zalmanson has learned, however, that the hareidi approach to the issue is not black and white. Among the visitors to the Temple Mount today [see separate story] were "card-carrying" hareidim, and one of them - representing Rabbi Yehuda Edri, Chairman of the Movement to Establish the Temple - said that many hareidi rabbis who know the issues are actually in favor of taking the precautions and visiting the holy site.
In addition, the Chief Rabbinate's special committee on the Temple Mount has not formally issued a ruling. More on this issue in tomorrow's report.
