The Yeshivot Bnei Akiva movement celebrated its 60th anniversary last night with a festive dinner in Tel Aviv. Certificates of honor were awarded to seven of its graduates who have excelled in public achievements: Ramat Gan Chief Rabbi Yaakov Ariel; former general director of the Dead Sea Companies Uri Ben-Nun; MK Zevulun Orlev (NRP); Nechama Gonen, the head of the Segulah Ulpanah in Kiryat Motzkin; IDF Chief Education Officer Brig.-Gen. Elazar Stern; Hebrew University Prof. Menachem Ben-Sasson; and Kiryat Malachi Mayor Lior Katzav - brother of President Moshe Katzav, who was present.
Some 68,000 graduates have passed through the yeshivot of the Bnei Akiva movement, which began 60 years ago with the founding of the first yeshiva high school in Kfar HaRoeh by Rabbi Moshe Tzvi Neriah. President Katzav noted the great influence that Bnei Akiva yeshivot have had on the character of the State of Israel, and NRP head Rabbi Yitzchak Levy said that the religious-Zionist public must have a great feeling of gratefulness to Yeshivot Bnei Akiva for \"teaching us to see everything in the light of Torah. Today, all those generations that grew up with Bnei Akiva are able, during these difficult times, to see everything with the all-encompassing light of Torah...\"
