IDF officials report that efforts are underway in the area of Ramallah to prevent a planned attack inside pre-1967 Israel. Arutz-7 has learned that, as of 4:00pm today (Thursday), a search was underway for a red vehicle believed to be laden with explosives and heading towards the capital to carry out an attack.
In Askar, near Shechem, last night, IDF soldiers destroyed the home of the Hamas terrorist responsible for the suicide bombing attack near Ariel earlier this week. Also in the Shechem area, a wanted terrorism suspect was apprehended by Israeli troops. A second suspect was picked up near Kalkilye, east of Kfar Saba. In Kalkilye itself, soldiers were targeted with an explosive device. There were no injuries in the attack.
Other terrorist attacks in the last twenty-four hours include: two separate sniper attacks against troops guarding Jewish communities in Gaza, N’vei Dekalim and Gadid; shooting attacks against civilian vehicles traveling on the Trans-Samaria Highway, near the community of Ariel; Arab rock-throwers also targeted motorists traveling the Gush Etzion road between Beit Omar and el-Aroub, as well as near Tapuach Junction in the Shomron; soldiers injured a rock-throwing attacker in the leg in the Beit Fouriq area. There were no injuries reported in any of the above incidents.
In efforts to improve its capabilities, the IDF is seeking to purchase Stryker LAV-3 armored personnel carriers from the United States. The armored vehicles increase maneuverability in urban areas, as they utilize wheels rather than tank-like tracks. The proposed deal will cost $750 million, to be funded through US defense aid to Israel.
