The response was a volley of gunfire that killed Ro'i and wounded three of his fellow soldiers.

The Israeli force then released a shoulder-fired missile at the top floor, and a tremendous blast was heard - evidence of many explosives in the building. The entire floor collapsed, and the two wanted terrorists were killed. The soldiers continued combing the area afterwards for terrorists and explosives.

IDF Yesha Commander Brig.-Gen. Gadi Eisencott explained afterwards that the army constantly takes such actions against terrorists:

"Every night we take action against terrorists, and thus thwart attacks. Since June 29, when the hudna [the terrorists' self-declared temporary ceasefire] went into effect, we have thwarted many dozens of attacks... We understand that we have a great responsibility to the citizens of this area and of all Israel..."

Prodded by a Voice of Israel reporter if there wasn't, in any event, a drop in intelligence warnings, Eisencott said slowly,

"Yes, there is a decrease - but there are still many warnings, and there are still attacks - such as the serious wounding last week of a woman [Tzila bat Rina, a mother of three, in southern Jerusalem], and a girl near Otzarin."

An IDF force discovered a large explosive weighing 35 kilograms (77 lbs.) in an Arab village near Tul Karem last night. The bomb had been hidden in a truck engine in the village, and was safely detonated by Border Guard sappers.
