Tel Chaim Bet, a small outpost at the eastern tip of Beit El, was taken down this morning - with the consent of the Beit El local town council. The residents and the army, both anxious to reach an agreement that would avoid a violent dismantling, made up that the sites few mobile homes would be transferred to the nearby Artis hilltop. Artis already houses the Pisgat Yaakov neighborhood, with some 20 families, a synagogue, a winery, a promenade, and a stunning view of Ofrah and the Moab mountains. Looking from the Artis past the newly-extinct Tel Chaim Bet neighborhood, one can clearly see clusters of illegal Arab construction on the horizon.
