Opposition Leader Shimon Peres (Labor) says the option of his party joining a national unity government is simply not relevant at present. He told Knesset reporters today that from Labor's standpoint, "it's better that the NRP and the National Union establish a Palestinian state, and not Labor."
Peres gave a stark evaluation of the situation in which the right-wing parties find themselves:
"Even if [respective party leaders] Effie Eitam and Avigdor Lieberman vote against such a state in the Cabinet, they will still be signatories to it by virtue of their membership in the coalition."
