A group of some 25 people attempted last night to "make their presence known" in the Biblical city of Jericho, presently under PA control. Army sources said the group was planning to start a new outpost - in area that is under full Israeli control - and soldiers nipped the attempt in the bud. The would-be settlers tried to cross through an army checkpoint, and even though tensions rose momentarily when one soldier cocked his gun, they parted as friends. One of the group said they would continue efforts to establish outposts in Yesha.

Ten wanted terrorists were arrested last night in various Yesha areas. Kol Rina News Agency reports that in one incident, near Jenin, the arresting soldiers came under fire. Arabs also opened fire at an IDF post in southern Gush Katif. No one was hurt in either incident.
