The Cleveland delegation is to arrive in Israel on July 20. Its members will be meeting with Israeli companies of various industries and exploring ways in which the companies can better penetrate US markets. Specifically, the delegation will be offering incentives to Israeli firms to establish operations in Cleveland. Israel’s financial newspaper Globes reports that the assistance offered by the delegation will include drafting marketing plans, guidance in setting up the new enterprise, securing guarantor-free loans, raising venture capital, and local employee recruitment. The city of Cleveland is also offering Israeli businesses a high-tech park, rent-free offices for six months, a customs exemption on imports and other tax breaks. The delegates will also assist the Israeli firms in finding US business connections outside of the Ohio city.
In September, a Spanish business delegation is due to visit Israel, as an Israeli delegation will travel to Spain. The exchange is among the first steps taken in the context of the newly formed Spain-Israel Chamber of Commerce, with the goal of expanding trade between the two countries. Towards that end, the Spanish Foreign Trade Institute (ICEX) will participate in the Agritech exhibition in Tel Aviv, the Israel Export Institute and ICEX will renew a cooperation agreement and the two states have agreed collaborate in future third-country projects. As reported by Globes, Israeli-Spanish trade exceeded $1 billion in 2002, with a 40% increase in Israeli exports to Spain in the first quarter of 2003.
