According to the columnist, “It did not take long for the renowned terrorist and war criminal Ariel Sharon to show his real face. As soon as the carefully choreographed photograph opportunity with Mahmoud Abbas, the Palestinian prime minister, and George W. Bush was over, Sharon went on with his favorite pastime of killing innocent Palestinians. Ariel Sharon is simply a product of hate.”
It is not only the Israeli prime minister that the writer finds objectionable, but the very character of the Israeli state: “It is discouraging — and simply insulting to humanity — in this day and age to accept the announcement of Israel as being ‘a Jewish State’, something that Sharon has pushed for and got with the blessing and support of the Bush administration.” Israeli self-definition, as the Arab News columnist explains it, is equivalent to South African apartheid. Zionist Israel is “a vulgar and discriminating political system,” he writes. “What happens to the half a million Arabs living in Palestine?” Shobokshi asks, “If it were left to Sharon, he would pluck them all, ten killings per day. He probably would love to be able to do that.”
The article then attempts to draw a parallel between Israeli residents of Judea, Samaria and Gaza and Arab terrorists, while actually mildly praising “an [American] administration that follows the trail of every suspect dollar that could conceivably have funded or financed terror activities and leaves no stone unturned to track it down.” The American war on terrorist groups, the Arab News column says, “falls purposely short of being universal and consistent in its coverage.” It excludes “the continuous suspect activities of militant terrorist Jewish groups in Palestine...” Shobokshi explains, “They are fully armed occupiers of Palestinian land, living out their own wacky version of a biblical fairytale. They kill innocent Palestinians daily, dismantle their houses and destroy their plantation.”
Echoing charges regarding Moslem charities in the West, the Saudi article goes on to claim that the “militant terrorist Jewish groups.... are fully funded by ‘charity’ organizations in the US that funnel millions of dollars into support of their mad, hateful and criminal terror activities. America must stop these horrific acts that are carried out in the name of its noble charity programs.”
And again, echoing Western and Israeli charges concerning official Arab support for terrorist groups, Hussein Shobokshi writes that the aforementioned “terrorist Jewish groups” are “tools in the hands of a bloodthirsty madman like Sharon. As long as loopholes like these exist and support from the American administration continues, there will be no end to his killings.”
