Some 400 Jewish students from North America arrived in Israel this week, for the latest \"installment\" of the anti-assimilation Taglit (Discovery) program. The students have never been to Israel before, and they will be treated to ten intensive days of Eretz Yisrael and Jewish culture. \"Despite the security situation here and the State Department advisories regarding travel to Israel,\" says Dr. Shimshon Shoshani, director of Taglit, \"the students continue to come.\" Another 3,100 students are scheduled to arrive by the end of June, and a total of over 14,000 students from 100 universities in 15 countries will have arrived by the end of the year - the largest number of student visitors in any one year since the establishment of the State. The students will visit important sites in the history of the nation and the country, and will meet Israeli soldiers, students, and new immigrants of their age.
