It was announced today that disabled visitors to Israel can make use of a number of services offered by Yad Sarah, a community based organization whose over 6,000 volunteers provide a spectrum of free, or nominal cost home-care health and social welfare support services through 100 centers throughout the country.
Yad Sarah will provide equipment to disabled persons visiting Israel, enabling them to move freely and fully enjoy their visit. Oxygen cylinders, motorized scooters, electric wheelchairs, sightseeing transport and meals-on-wheels can all be obtained from Yad Sarah - subject to availability. Wheelchair users can book a special transport service to meet their plane at Ben-Gurion airport. They request that visitors book a few weeks in advance of their visit and pay a small charge for the transport service, but the equipment is lent free against a returnable deposit.
Those interested in learning more about how Yad Sarah helps the disabled, a visit to the Yad Sarah Exhibition and Guidance Center displays the newest devices designed to offer the disabled greater freedom and independence. The exhibition, which is 'hands on', allows visitors and health care professionals to try out the equipment themselves to see if it suits their needs. There are four permanent guidance and exhibition centers: in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Haifa and Netanya as well as a new "Instructional Traveling Exhibit" which will be on the road early in July.
