President Moshe Katzav said today that the IDF officer who refused to take part in any manner in the evacuation and dismantling of the outpost in Adei Ad last week, and was sentenced to 28 days in army prison, "was mistaken." The President called upon IDF commanders not to place other soldiers in a similar dilemma. The "refusenik" officer is a resident of Netzarim in Gaza, where neighbors said he is an "exemplary officer who received a commendation from the Central Command O.C. on Independence Day."
In another item, Katzav had strong criticism for Interior Minister Avraham Poraz (Shinui) for his comparison between Hamas and the residents of Yesha.
"Comparing them is simply terrible and nauseating," Katzav said, noting that Hamas target women, babies, and the elderly for murder. He called upon Poraz to retract his words.
