Ron Lauder of New York and Israeli businessman Shlomo Ben-Tzvi have purchased the HaTzofeh newspaper. They bought 80% of the shares from the HaPoel HaMizrachi and World Mizrachi movements. The Ben-Tzvi group will own about 61% of the paper, Mizrachi will retain 20%, and Lauder will own the remainder. The new owners say they will invest five million shekels in the paper. Ben-Tzvi also owns the Israeli "Techelet" religious-Jewish cable station. Lauder has served as President of the Jewish National Fund and Chairman of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations.
