Five caravan homes, a water tank, and basic supplies, comprise the rebirth of the Maon Farm in the Southern Hevron Hills district. The farm was uprooted in November 1999, with army bulldozers destroying the budding community, including the synagogue.
Hundreds of supporters made their way to the farm in 1999 in response to the rumors of the planned IDF evacuation. A large military force comprised of hundreds of soldiers and police moved in during the predawn hours, dismantling the community structure by structure. Attempts to reestablish it have continued ever since, and the residents were last removed about three months ago. On May 28, efforts were resumed to reestablish the community.
Nearby, hundreds of Kiryat Arba residents today took part in a Jerusalem Day march to the town's Hill 26, where Livnat Ozeri and her five children lived until forcibly evacuated by government order in late March. Livnat is the widow of Natanel Ozeri, murdered by Arab terrorists at his farmhouse on the Hill in January 2003. The marchers are demanding that the army permit the Ozeri family to rebuild their farm on the site.
The government remains committed to remove 'illegal encampments' such as the Maon and Ozeri farms throughout Judea and Samaria.
