Attorney-General Elyakim Rubenstein has strong criticism of Interior Minister Avraham Poraz's plan to deny automatic citizenship to those who converted to Judaism while in Israel. Rubenstein asked Prime Minister Sharon to hold an urgent meeting on the unilateral changes that Poraz wants to institute. In a letter to Sharon, the Attorney-General - who is expected to be named a Supreme Court justice soon - wrote that these changes do not jibe with government decisions, and will force the State to grant a form of permanent status to 100,000 foreign workers. Rubenstein wrote that if Poraz has his way, the number of foreign workers would grow, as would unemployment.
