Despite fears of terrorism, some 100,000 people arrived in Meron last night for the traditional Lag BaOmer celebrations last night. The same amount is expected to arrive today and tomorrow. Some 3,000 security personnel and volunteers were on hand to protect the participants. Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu, who arrived with his father the Rishon Letzion Rabbi Mordechai Eliyahu around midnight last night, said, "It's just indescribable in words. People from all over singing, dancing, learning, giving - more and more happiness, more and more friendship and closeness - just amazing. The power of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai [at whose gravesite and on whose traditional date of death the celebrations take place] is just so strong…"
