This morning's bombings followed by only a few hours the first meeting between Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and his "counterpart" in the Palestinian Authority, Abu Mazen. Housing Minister Effie Eitam (National Religious Party) said today, "We must cut off all contacts with the Palestinian Authority and Abu Mazen, expand the IDF activities in Yesha, and reconsider expelling the families of suicide terrorists."

The National Union party, which has long opposed diplomatic contacts with the PA, called to cut off such contacts, and to increase Jewish settlement efforts in eastern Jerusalem.

MK Gilad Erdan (Likud) called upon Prime Minister Sharon and Defense Minister Mofaz to decide this evening to expel family members of suicide terrorists. "The mourning tents, where pride in the new family 'martyr' and support for terror is expressed, are a center of dangerous incitement," Erdan said today. Other Likud MKs said that Abu Mazen had effected no change whatsoever in the PA's stance toward terrorism, and that Arafat's continuing presence makes the situation insoluble.

Outgoing Labor Party leader MK Amram Mitzna said that Sharon should not have canceled his trip to the U.S., as he is "playing into the hands of the extremists who wish only to delay the diplomatic process."
