Yair Golan's Democrats Party submitted a request to the Central Elections Committee on Monday asking it to disqualify Otzma Yehudit from running in the upcoming elections.
The Democrats cited the reasons for the request as "the undermining of democracy and denying the existence of the State of Israel as a democratic state," as well as "incitement to racism."
The document submitted to the committee claims that "the representatives of Kahanism in the Israeli Knesset no longer deal with theory, but rather they use their governmental power and immunity to crush the rule of law, violate judicial orders, not recognize the Supreme Court's authority, harm state security, and incite to violent racism."
As part of the request, the names of the candidates at the top of the list, Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and Knesset Member Tally Gotliv, were specifically noted.
The Otzma Yehudit Party was quick to respond, stating: "The Democrats Party is an antisemitic, anti-Israel party. It is led by a man who said that IDF soldiers kill infants as a hobby; members of this party led the insubordination in the IDF ahead of October 7th, provided legal counsel to terrorists, and just today backed the antisemitic incitement film against the IDF. The fact that such a party is in the Knesset is a disgrace to the State of Israel."
