The Population and Immigration Authority released data on the most popular names chosen for babies over the past year, ahead of the start of the Hebrew year 5787.
Among boys nationwide, Muhammad ranked first. It was followed by Ariel, Yosef, Adam and David. Rounding out the top ten boys’ names were Omer, Rafael, Lavi, Michael and Eitan.
Looking solely at the Jewish population, Ariel topped the list. David ranked second, followed by Rafael and Lavi. The remaining most popular names among Jewish boys were Uri, Michael, Eliya, Eitan, Yehuda and Ari.
Among girls, Avigail was the most popular name nationwide. It was followed by Miriam, Lia, Libi and Tamar. Rounding out the ten most popular girls’ names were Yael, Ayala, Sarah, Ella and Naya.
Among the Jewish population, Avigail also topped the list, followed by Libi and Tamar. Yael and Lia came next, with Ella, Ayala, Sarah, Noa and Naya completing the list.
