National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir recounted on Thursday the negotiations to form the current coalition, claiming that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu offered him the Foreign Affairs portfolio.
"Suddenly, everyone wants to be National Security Minister: Yair Golan, Yoav Segalovich, Smotrich, Regev, Eisenkot, and Bennett. I remember when I went to Bibi and told him that I want to be National Security Minister; Bibi told me: "You sure? It's political suicide," Ben-Gvir shared during a New Year's toast at the National Security Ministry.
He added that "Netanyahu told me, 'Here, be Foreign Minister. I thought he was making fun of me. I closed my eyes and couldn't imagine sitting on the roof of my house in Hebron - hosting a diplomats' ball."
Ben-Gvir implied that he is aiming for a more significant position in the next government. "There are those who didn't want to see me here, and I am closing out four years in the position today. In the upcoming elections, we will achieve good results, and I want to be a more senior minister. However, the National Security Ministry will remain Otzma Yehudit's."
