The Advisory Committee for Personal Security convened on Sunday and decided to recommend attaching security to the chairman of the "Yashar!" party, Gadi Eisenkot, until election day.
The latest development follows warnings and new findings presented by members of Eisenkot’s team to security officials.
Meanwhile, it was decided that the committee would convene separately at a later date to discuss the security arrangements for Democrats Party chairman Yair Golan, regarding whom similar information was submitted.
The move marks a reversal of a decision made a week earlier that sparked public controversy. At the time, Shin Bet Director David Zini determined that there was no need to assign security guards to Eisenkot.
Zini explained that the Shin Bet had not obtained intelligence indicating a concrete threat against Eisenkot. He stressed that his position was reached solely following professional consultations, including with Central Elections Committee chairman Justice Noam Sohlberg.
Zini’s initial decision prompted public intervention from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that same evening. Netanyahu instructed the Shin Bet director to review the matter and ensure that Eisenkot receives appropriate protection based on his security needs.
